Violet Davenport became interested in art at a young age. She tried many techniques before arriving at collage: drawing, painting, paper mâché, jewelry-making, scrapbooking, and photography. Nothing seemed to hold her interest quite as much as collage. Starting with a simple class 15 years ago, she has been hooked ever since. She believes half the fun is painting her papers to use in later creations. Always on the lookout for materials to use in her work, her collage art incorporates old books, maps, sheets of music, restaurant menus, and other interesting paper finds. She rips up her painted papers and finds items to assemble them into vibrant birds, flowers, or animals exploding with color. She adores the messy, carefree process that collage offers.
